Missing Boy Ireland
On Monday, Tattyreagh Road in the vicinity was shut off after community volunteers announced they had given up looking for Matthew.
A corpse was discovered on Monday in a ditch in a property’s laneway, according to a PSNI spokesperson. Matthew’s death is being handled as “unexplained” by the PSNI.
“Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a teenage boy after finding his corpse on Monday, December 5, just before noon in the Fintona neighbourhood.
It is thought to be the body of Dungannon-area teenager Matthew McCallan, who was 15 years old.
“Our sympathies are very much with Matthew’s devastated family who got this awful news today,” Detective Inspector Michael Winters said. They are currently receiving assistance from other officers who have undergone specific training.
Detectives will keep looking into the circumstances of the death, which is still being handled as an unexplained incident.
When Matthew failed to return home after attending an event in Fintona on Saturday night, police were alerted just after 3.30am on Sunday, December 4.
“Unfortunately, on Monday, December 5th, at 11.45am, a body was found in a ditch in the laneway of a home about two miles away from the social gathering. We believe the body to be Matthew.
“We are remaining flexible and want anyone with knowledge to come forward. Matthew was last seen at around 1.20 a.m. in the Ecclesville Center in Fintona, and we’re interested in learning more about his whereabouts after that. I would kindly ask anyone who saw the teenager or has dashcam or CCTV footage to call police at (911) 101 and reference reference number 319 of 04/12/22.
