Emily Sotelo Missing

After starting out on a well-traveled track in the bitter cold, a hiker from New Hampshire has vanished, according to investigators.

According to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division, Emily Sotelo, 20, was left off Sunday morning at Lafayette Place Campground in Franconia with the intention of hiking Mount Lafayette, Haystack, and Flume.

Sotelo failed to return from the hike at the scheduled time, and there have been no sightings of the woman. The area experienced temperatures that dropped to almost zero, with winds of 30 to 40 mph making the chill factor a chilly -30 degrees.

On Sunday, search and rescue personnel searched the ridge for the missing hiker, and they did so again on Monday.

On Monday, Franconia experienced mid-twenties daytime highs with 9 mph winds.

Sotelo, a native of Westford, Massachusetts, is 115 pounds and 5 feet 3 inches tall. He has brown hair and blue eyes. She was last spotted with on exercise trousers and a brown jacket.

The hiker’s whereabouts are unknown, and anyone with information is asked to call NH State Police Dispatch at (603) 271-1170.
